25%. I increased the volume and the volume bar graph on the display indicated approx. However, compared to my ipod 30 GB Classic, I didn't notice very much difference. Clear reception. So I took a chance. The primary operating buttons are located on the front panel ILO (in lieu of) the side panel for easy visual identification and physical operation. I did purchase a Phillips CD/MP3 player from a large national retail chain. EARPHONES: The included earphones were a pleasent surprise.
It's also a real possibility that these units were defective or the headphones they were using weren't compatable. However, I own a number of other Sony products (LCD HD T-V, Blue Ray, Camcorders etc).and all of them are of the finest quality. I purchased the Sony D-NF340 CD Walkman & MP3 Player w/FM Tuner to replace my ageing 11 year old Panasonic SL-S232C portable CD player. WOW. All I can say is the unit I purchased will blow your socks off if you want it to (PLEASE, I don't recommend this).Motor Noise: The motor/transport mechanism is a little louder than my old panasonic but it's not that noticeable and doesn't present a problem with me, especially with my headphones on (Ha Ha).
VOLUME: I almost didn't purchase the Sony D-NF340 because a few of the reviews I read stated that the player has little or very low volume. However, there is a AVLS button (automatic volume limiter system) that limits the volume function. That provided plenty of db's (decibles). I would have purchased another Panasonic player however none was available.
I only play CD's and can't report on MP3 quality.FM RADIO: Works great. It also has a button to select 3 levels of bass. I carry my player in a Tune Belt and it's nice to operate the player without removing it from the pouch. SOUND QUALITY: The sound quality compared to my old Panasonic SL-S242C isn't quite as good. I couldn't detect any hiss in the background.
I might suggest reading the instructions. The remote control might be a guy thing but it's very useful. The sound quality is really quite good for an included feature. The antenna is the earphone cord and it has 40 station presets.FUNCTIONALITY: VERY easy to operate. I returned it because it skiped, shut off frequently (so much for anti-shock) and it had below average sound quality.
The Sony D-NF340 does have a nice presentation on the very high and very low frequencies. I'm a guy and I know it goes against the grain to do this. Well, Let me assure you that this player will provide more than enough volume and bass. I increased the volume to 50% and that was more than I personally felt comfortable with.
The FM turner works fine as well as the remote. This CD walkman is great. Great sound in all of CDs and MP3s.
I love the feature that lets you push stop and then when you start up you are exactly where you where when you stopped. The phillips cd player I had was just too fragile and couldnt take much movement. I buy rechargable to save money though. An absolute must for anyone who listens to books.
First what I like about this one- It can be in my pocket, bouncing around and it doesn't cause a single problem. At least they put the battery diagram toward the front for easier viewing. It's a rather silly inconvience. I only hope the walkman name still holds up over time like the older ones do. I needed a cd player that would play the less expensive mp3 recorded books along with cd's I burn on my computer.
AA batteries are easy to come by and I can find them anywhere so I don't mind this feature. I hope this one holds up to moderate banging. The radio is a mute point since I don't even have 2 radio stations to listen to. I have a cleaning business and listen to books and cds the whole time I work.
The cd player itself feels very light and could be flimsy. I hate where the designer puts the battery area. It works better than most just out of the box and a cheap cd mp3 player at the local stores is at least 30+ bucks so you don't really pay that much more for the walkman name. So far no problems but I am always on the go when I am listening and snags and falls happen. I could not find any other cd player that even had a hope of holding up except for this one.
I am very hard on them, and of course very few last. I needed a cd player that would not have a problem with a lot of bouncing. So far I love it. I will update later to let others know how it holds up over time. It's back next to the hinge and very hard to see and get your fingers in.
The remote is pretty useless for me so I don't even know how it works. This is what I wish someone had let me know when I was searching. To start with I am giving it 5 stars. I don't hear the motor so I'm not sure what that is about.
I think it probably will. I choose this model, the walkman, because my husband got me a walkman cassett player about 9 years ago and it has taken a lot of abuse and still works. I really wish they could fix that. Concerns - these could be nothing but could end up a problem.
The buttons are recessed so I don't accidently hit them reprogramming my cd or turning it on accidentally when I am not even listening to it, thereby draining another set of batteries. The sound is clear and I only have it set on about half.
It's an excellent.if difficult to purchase.player. This is the best player that I could find and has a lot of great features including a remote control that helps when the player is in a case. If you need a portable CD player, I highly recommend this one. While I realize most people are using MP3 typle players, there still is a use for a traditional CD player. I use it to listen to recorded books from the library and listening to my own collection of CD's while traveling.
Excellent product at and excellent price. I purchased this product for my husband so that he could listen to Bible doctrine and music via MP3 format. He has raved as to the wonderful sound quality and ease of use, this Sony product provides.
